Costa Mesa is a hub for the arts and tonight at the Orange County Performing Arts Center (OCPAC) the LA Opera is presenting a FREE show, no tickets required! The opera is ‘Il Postino’.
The Story of ‘Il Postino’
It’s about Mario, a shy postal carrier in Italy who follows his dreams. Instead of becoming a fisherman like his father he has an opportunity to befriend a famous poet (Neruda) and serve as his personal mailman. This leads to Mario taking an intense interest in poetry, which contributes beautifully to the love story unfolding between him and the love of his life, Beatrice. The opera was composed by Daniel Katan. Charles Castanova plays the postman, Placido Domingo plays the role of the poet, and Amanda Squitieri plays a Beatrice.
Even though the story takes place in Italy, the opera is performed in Spanish because the composer speaks Spanish and the character of Neruda has a Spanish background. English subtitles will be provided.
It’s a Gorgeous Night
The weather is perfect for a night under the stars. Opera-goers are encouraged to bring beach chairs and portable seating. Why not bring a picnic dinner too?
