The Costa Mesa Speedway is a major motorsports venue credited with the renaissance of motorcycle speedway racing in Southern California. The 185 yards (169 metres) long track hosts both Solo and Sidecar speedway. Opening at the Orange County Fair Grounds in the summer of 1969 it was a perfect thirst quencher for those that were apart of the rising era of skateboarding, BMX and motocross.
Nowadays when you go to the speedway prepared for an exciting and action packed time. Along with the energy-charged crowd, the air is filled with excitement, bikes revving in the background as the announcer calls out the colorful riders names like Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz and Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell. You can also pick up a program that helps you follow along and keep track of each rider, the events and how they scored.
